Pacific Islands parliamentarians visit China

China is on track to achieve its Millennium Development Goals by 2015, and to establish a moderately prosperous society by 2020, Shi Guohui, the Vice-Governor of Binxian County, in central China told a Pacific Islands delegation on May 10.

The Pacific Islands delegation included14 members of parliament and three media personnel from Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Federated States of Micronesia.

This weekend the Pasifika Education Centre (PEC) and the Samoan Business Network will launch a joint promotion to celebrate Samoan Language Week.

Tonga’s 2019 games hosting will boost health says minister

That’s according to the Minister of Sport, Lord Vaea.

He says the cabinet have decided to host the games for several reasons, although it’s still not clear where the estimated ninety million US dollar costs will come from.

Lord Vaea tells Bruce Hill it’s been a while since Tonga hosted a regional sporting event.

An increasing number of Tongas youth are found to have diabetes, a disease that is incurable, and many of them have contracted diabetes because they eat the wrong foods.A Tonga Youth Diabetes Study Report 2013, released last week recommends a national screening of youths for the disease along with a national awareness campaign.

Tonga’s first wind turbine stands in Nakolo

Tonga first 11kW wind turbine is ready to be commissioned for operation in June after its construction was completed on 16 May 2013 at Nakolo in Tongatapu.Setitaia Chen, the Wind Turbine Project Manager, said the turbine will be in a position to generate power once the wind speed reaches 3.5 meters per second. It is expected that the turbine can reach a capacity of up to 11kW when the wind speed reaches a constant 9.5m/s or more.

King Tupou VI visits new baby prince

In a first photo, a new heir to the the Tongan throne, the new baby Prince Taufa’ahau Manumataongo Tuku’aho is being held by his mother Princess Sinaitakala (at left)

The occasion was a failotu for HM King Tupou VI, at ‘Atalanga, Auckland, on Saturday May 18.

The new baby born in Auckland on May 10, is the son of Crown Prince Tupouto’a and Princess Sinaitakala and is second in line to the throne.
