Former Tonga Ministry of Health director Dr Laumeesi Malolo has died aged 87.A family spokesperson has confirmed his death to Kaniva news.

‘Reliance’ finds second fault on Tonga fibre optic cable


Nuku’alofa, Tonga: A second fault on the international submarine cable, which connects Tonga through the Southern Cross Cable Network to Fiji, was located further out to sea from the first fault, early this morning, 30 January.

Tonga cable repairs underway, but cause still a mystery


The Tonga Communications Corporation is hopeful the international submarine cable can be repaired before the weekend.A repair vessel, the cable maintenance ship Reliance, has begun work on the severed undersea cable which had connected the country with the outside world via Fiji.

Men with thousands of dollars strapped to their bodies arrested at Tonga airport


Tongan Police have arrested two Asian men, 48 and 27 years old, attempting to smuggle thousands of dollars in cash out of the country.The 48 year old was reported to have had at least US$40,000 while the 27 year old had NZ$10,000 which were both strapped to their bodies with tape.
