Digicel Tonga buys shares in Tonga Cable | Matangi Tonga


Nuku’alofa, Tonga: Digicel Tonga Ltd. today bought 16.6% of Tonga Government’s shares in Tonga Cable Ltd., which amounted to USD$4.19 million equivalent to $9.1 million pa’anga, that will be used to assist in financing the extension of the fibre optic cable network to Vava’u and Ha’apai.

Nuku’alofa, Tonga: A private gift of around 5000 pairs of shoes from Japan are being distributed by the Tonga Red Cross this week to young students at various schools in Tongatapu.

Vava’u struck with benzene shortage at busiest time | Matangi Tonga


Nuku’alofa, Tonga: Vava’u has been struck with a serious shortage of benzene this week forcing tourism operators and businesses to look for other sources of fuel – or to cut back heavily on their operations. The shortage will not be eased until the domestic ferry arrives tomorrow, followed by a delayed fuel tanker that will not unload until next week.

Philippines Ambassador visits LDS church in Tonga | Matangi Tonga


Nuku’alofa, Tonga: The Ambassador of the Philippines to New Zealand, H.E. Jesus Domingo, visited the Kingdom last week. His visit was unannounced by the Tonga Government but was reported by the LDS church who greeted and welcomed Mr Domingo to their stake.
