Health authorities say the Pacific is now ranked as the fattest region in the world.
It’s all blamed on a major diet change…. traditional fare such as fish and coconuts have been replaced by huge “paint tin size” cans of processed and chemical laden corned beef, turkey, meat loaf and Spam.

Health authorities in Tonga are calling for new laws which will allow the country to ban imports of poor quality food. The Tongan Health Department says more than 90 per cent of the population is classed as overweight and more than 60 per cent is obese. A high level health summit will be held in Tonga next week to discuss the causes of what is regarded as an obesity epidemic.
