A leading member of the opposition in Tonga says the country’s on the brink of a constitutional crisis.
via Tonga MPs want action on illegality of deputy PM holding attorney general post.
I’m afraid to say that some of the decisions made by this new govt. have been to say the least rather poor, unsophisticated and at times downright silly. I know that they have been elected democratically but do they have to accept when invited to particitpate in government?
Most of them donot appear to be well educated, out of touch with current local and international issues of importance, given ministerial portfolios far above their calling or their qualifications or experience, no business acumen or have no idea of parliamentary protocol, how to run a meeting, look after the welfare of the local community or appear to provide leadership and direct a new direction for the nation and its poor people.
Because of these and many other deficiencies, they have recently present a false picture to the local and expatriate Tongan population, the Pacific regional communities and the world at large a new Tonga that is small-minded, inward-looking, unsophisticated, unworldly, ancient, retro-progressive, unenlightened and worst of all, stagnant and backward.
I urge the PM [ who was NZ. and Adelaide educated ] to step out and lead the country into the world of today!
Please employ or seek to use the many exported talents of the Tongan diaspora and their descendants and offsprings? They are not only well educated but are involved with international & governmental departments / institutions and lots of private companies and multinational corporations. There are lawyers, company managers, executive directors….., sportsmen & women, medical & paramedical personnels, financial executives, accountants etc. Ask them for advice please if you are too poor to seek proper advice when obviously you are very much lacking any such wise counselling in MANY of your dealings.
I hope you people in Tonga will learn from this and ONLY select people who are well educated & experienced enough in matters of local, regional & international importance in the next election!
